Thank you for defining “somnolence.” I stared at it a long time wondering if it was a typo for “solemn,” which would maybe work when describing the feeling of winter. Love learning new words! Also, I’ve never really noticed the intensity of lilacs until just this past week while walking the dog. I made the boys smell them on our post-dinner walk tonight.
I love learning new words, too. I read almost constantly as a child (it was my escape), so I have all these words in my brain, many of which I've never heard spoken aloud--and sometimes, when I look them up, they do not mean what I thought they meant from context! But language is fun :-)
The lilacs seem to be getting better and better every year. I've found so many new bushes in my neighborhood just recently. I wish they bloomed longer, but I think that is part of why they're so delightful. I make sure to enjoy them all I can, and then it's bye-bye until next April/May.
Isn't Seattle DELICIOUS right now? Such good weather, such good flowers, and everyone seems to be a little giddy from it all.
Lilacs are lovely, even the name . But where I come from, to bring them indoors is considered very unlucky
That is so interesting! I’ve not heard of that before. Do you mind if I ask where you are from? (Off to Google to see what I can find!).
Thanks for sharing 😊
